Who am I?

This blog is inspired by Ramana Maharshi but are really my own explanations and commentaries inspired by Ramana Maharshi

Who am I?

Is the most important question that one has to answer, in order to get to Self Realization and also to any other question of existence

In fact, the quest to answer who am I? simultaneously answers all other existential questions such as:

Who is God?
What is the world?

as they get resolved when one realizes who one is...

Hence work to resolve the question, who am I? foremost....

When one quests to answer the question Who am I?

One gets to realize something very strange...the 'I' that I identify as my self is nothing but a thought-concept, and is hence only fictional. The I-thought or I-idea is simply an imaginary concept that is NOT real in any true sense. Since it is only a thought.

Yet all this time, I have identified myself as the thought of 'I', not the real 'I'.

So if the identity that I take myself to be, which I now realize is nothing but the thought of 'I', 'me', 'mine', then that cannot be who I really am....

At first this is a bit of a shock, as I have been identifying for so long with a thought as my actual identity.

So if I am not my thought of 'I', then who am I?

The answer is that you have to discover that for yourself, and you will, because it is very simple, your true self was and is always there, underlying and as the basis of the thoughts.

You cannot have any thoughts, without being aware of them first...

awareness comes before thought...

underlying all thoughts is this natural pure awareness...

it is like the wide open blue sky...and the thoughts are like the passing clouds in that sky...

You are that natural thoughtless awareness..that is underlying your thoughts even right now...

Simply look at your thoughts and investigate what they are, and look at whats is behind them, when thoughts cease or between thoughts, is nothingness...

It is really thoughtless.....that is the sky...

that is who you really are! The thoughtless beingness....

When you understand that fully, then that is termed Self-realization.
